Jan Walencik at the East Design Days

These were two intensive days at the Faculty of Architecture of the Białystok University of Technology. The sixth edition of the East Design Days, which took place on 12-13 October 2023, was devoted to interior design inspirations and, as usual, attracted fans of modern design. Panellists included Jan Walencik, one of the most famous filmmakers and photographers in Poland, whose speciality is putting the Białowieża Forest on display. The meeting with the naturalist took place on the second day of the East Design Days and was organised in collaboration with the XYLOPOLIS Centre for Wood Art and Science.

Jan Walencik told the mostly young audience (university and secondary school students) about his technique of working on nature films and what he finds most challenging. The audience was able to see never-before-published photographs, but also excerpts from the author’s best films.

Jan Walencik is a great enthusiast for the creation of the XYLOPOLIS Centre for Wood Art and Science This can be a unique feature of our region. We have something unique, that is the Białowieża Forest, so let’s boast about it and promote our region – he said during the meeting.

At the end, all participants received a copy of Walencik’s book, A Flavour of Białowieża Honey. How I shot was shooting “Heartbeat of the Primeval Forest” series.

Take a look at a short photo report from the meeting.
